Getting Your Egypt Visa Is Easier Than You Think
If “getting a visa” is the one thing standing between you and finally seeing the Pyramids of Giza, take a breath — this is genuinely one of the simplest parts of planning your trip to Egypt. Travelers from the United States, and from most countries across Latin America including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, and more, have two easy ways to get their tourist visa. No embassy visits, no mountains of paperwork.
Your Two Options
Option 1: The e-Visa (apply online before you fly)
This is the option most travelers prefer, because it means one less thing to think about at the airport.
- Apply on the official Egypt e-Visa portal from home, days or weeks before your trip
- You’ll need your passport details, a digital passport photo, and a scan of your passport’s photo page
- Pay online by debit or credit card
- Approval typically arrives by email within a few business days (we recommend applying at least 1–2 weeks before departure, just to build in a comfortable buffer)
- A single-entry e-Visa covers a 30-day stay; a multiple-entry option is available if your trip includes a side hop to Jordan or another neighboring country
Option 2: Visa on Arrival (get it at the airport)
Prefer to handle it in person? You can also get your tourist visa right when you land in Egypt, at major airports including Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada, and Sharm El Sheikh.
- Simply visit the visa counter before immigration
- Pay in cash (US dollars are accepted — bring exact change if you can, since fees have recently adjusted)
- The stamp takes just a few minutes, and you’re on your way to passport control
Who’s Eligible
The good news: citizens of the United States and the vast majority of Latin American countries — including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela — qualify for both the e-Visa and visa on arrival.
